Moberly’s Knox Grabs Medal; Palmyra’s King, Southern Boone’s Burns Win Titles

Moberly sophomore Bryleigh Knox took fourth place in the triple jump at the MSHSAA State Track & Field Championships Friday. It’s the first girls state track medal since 2019 for Moberly.

Knox will compete in long jump Saturday. She’ll also be on the 4×400 meter relay team that qualified for finals by ranking sixth in prelims. Brett Gelina will bring home two medals after ranking second in the 200 meter and fifth in the 400 meter. Palmyra had four field medalists on the day. One year after finishing state runner-up, Candra King won it in discus.

Abbey Redd and Alaina Loman placed second and fourth respectively in pole vault. Carson Hicks took sixth in high jump. Connor Burns of Southern Boone won a state title in the 1600 meter.

The Centralia girls 4×800 relay team of Kenedee Moss, Rebecca Erisman, Annie Robinson and Jozelynn Bostick finished state runner-up. Ellie Berendzen took fourth in discus. For the boys, Rohan Holiman was fifth in the 800 meter and J.R. Lesher seventh in 1600 meter. Hallsville’s Marissa Austene placed fourth in triple jump.

Austene set a school record in the 200 meter dash in sectionals and she will compete in the finals Saturday after ranking seventh in Friday’s prelims. You can find a full list of all area final and prelim results from Friday here.
