Moberly Marches into District Championship With Crisp Performance After Long Layoff

Moberly football defeated Kirksville 55-14 in the district semifinals Friday. Kirksville trimmed its deficit to 14-7 with three and a half minutes left in the first quarter, but Moberly responded with a pair of passing touchdowns.

Brad Boyer with the calls of Dominic Stoneking’s 28-yard pass to Toby Short and 69-yard throw to Jacksyn Miller in the final three minutes of the first quarter. The Spartans scored touchdowns on their first six possessions to enter the half with a 42-7 advantage. Head coach Cody McDowell explained the hot start after 8-1 Moberly played its first game in three weeks.

Stoneking completed an unofficial eight of 11 attempts for 147 yards and two touchdowns. Fellow senior Jarrett Kinder recorded 10 carries for a season-high 91 yards and four touchdowns. Reserve quarterback Dakotah Courtney provided his first career touchdown with two minutes left. McDowell said the Spartans are thrilled to reach the district championship in a year of unknowns.

McDowell and Moberly host Hannibal in the district finals Friday.

Moberly rushed for 241 yards. Kevin Krietemeyer guided 6-5 Kirksville to its best season since 2013.
