The allure of a new cash crop entering farmers’ rotations, especially one with as much buzz and potential as hemp, can quickly wear off if a producer has the crop harvested but nowhere to sell it. Adrian row-crop farmer Luke Poindexter grew a test plot last year in Kansas and soon decided to take the next step in developing the hemp industry.

Poindexter has formed MoCann Extracts with his sister Michelle, and has already contracted with farmers in Kansas and Oklahoma to process their hemp crop to extract CBD distillate. He advises farmers to read the fine print of their contract to make sure they know what the end product will be and how much it’s worth.

Poindexter was a presenter at the Heart of America Agricultural Hemp Classic earlier this month in Independence.
