The Marceline softball team punched their ticket to Springfield for the first time in program history with a 15-8 victory over Lafayette County in the Class 2 state quarterfinals. A home run derby broke out between the two schools, as there were six round-trippers in five and a half innings of play. Husker first baseman Lexy Gash hit a three run home run in the first, and a two run shot in the third to give Lafayette County a 5-2 lead. Third baseman Torye Sears hit a solo shot afterwards to give the Huskers a four run lead. Scott Lunte with the call on Glory 97 and centralmoinfo.com. Shortstop Baylee Jobson drove in two more runs afterwards to cap off a five run fourth inning. The Huskers answered back in the bottom half with a pair of runs to take a 8-7 lead. Lady Tiger starting pitcher Savanna Kelly had a tough three innings on the mound after allowing the three home runs; however, she managed to play hero in the fifth inning.

The two run shot put the Lady Tigers up for good as they improve 22-4. Coach Todd Lowther was proud of his teams resiliancy.

In the sixth inning, Marceline spotted five more runs on Lafayette County. Jobson hit a solo home run, and Sarah Kussman drive in a pair to highlight the half inning. Lowther reflects on the teams first trip to Springfield.
