Macon Sweeps Courtwarming, Picks Up First CCC Wins

The Macon boys and girls picked up their first Clarence Cannon Conference wins of the season by sweeping Brookfield Friday night.

The Macon Tigers shined defensively in a 53-52 win. Andre Compton hit a free throw to give them a one-point lead with four seconds left. The Tigers fouled on the ensuing inbound then batted away two sideline inbound attempts to give Brookfield one final shot.

Austin Ward with the call on 99.9 The Captain and centralmoinfo.com. The Bulldogs led 10-5 early before Macon started pressing full court and used it to build an eight-point lead early in the third quarter. Brookfield responded with an 18-2 run.

The Tigers trailed 38-32 after three and used the hot hand of Johnathan Bray to pull ahead.

Bray finished with five threes and a game-high 21 points. Coach Dale Devenport was happy to see him have a special night.

Jace Terry ended with 12 points, six of them in the final quarter. Ryder Lewis had 13. Macon moves to 4-15. Brookfield falls to 7-15. Bryson Shoop, Hank Parks and Hayden DeJong finished with 17, 16 and 11 respectively.

The Macon Tigerettes used a big run to win 52-38. There were two ties and six lead changes early before Brookfield built up a seven-point lead in the second quarter. A Reece Barnett three gave the Tigerettes the lead for good. She came through again in the fourth when Brookfield cut its deficit to six.

Barnett concluded with 22 points. Ella Barnett scored 13. Coach Thomas Kirkland’s team had an 18-0 run span across the second and third quarters.

Brookfield was led by Jerzi Fields’ 11 points. Coach Tim Thomason said they dug themselves in too big of a hole.

Macon moves to 8-15 while Brookfield falls to 7-15.
