MACC Approves Agreements for Baseball and Softball Fields and Dorms

The MACC Board of Trustees Monday approved an agreement with the city of Moberly to upgrade and rent fields at Howard Hils for the baseball and softball teams that start play next year. College President Dr. Jeff Lashley…

The baseball team will play games on what is now Red 1, and practice on Red 2. The softball team will play games on Green 4, and practice on Green 3. Lashley says the college is working with the city to determine what’s needed.

The city will operate the concession stand, and the college will get to hang sponsorship and team banners on the fences. The initial agreement is for five years, with automatic two-year renewals afterward unless either side wants to end the arrangement.

The college is also moving forward with housing for the student-athletes. The board approved a construction agreement for just over three million dollars that includes an upgrade of the old bookstore into a new dorm.

Lashley says this will be a big addition for the college.

The complete project will provide dorm rooms, bathrooms, laundry and kitchen facilities for 64 students. Lashley says there is a contingency plan for the student-athletes if the new dorm rooms are not ready when classes start in the fall.
