Local Players Will Impact Truman Football Heading Into The Opener

Several local players will make an impact on the Truman football team as the season kicks-off at Findlay, Ohio on Saturday. Isaiah Estes of Fayette led the Bulldogs in tackles last season. Coach Gregg Nesbitt talks about his senior….

Nesbitt mentioned Jacksyn Miller of Moberly, who enters his junior season second on the depth chart at linebacker, but will play in all four phases of special teams. Also, from Randolph County, Ben Miller of Westran will anchor Nesbitt’s defensive line….

Jonathan Saxbury of Monroe City enters his senior season at guard….

Nesbitt has a pair of mid-Missouri running backs on the depth chart in Mason Huskey of Hallsville and Gerry Marteen, Jr., of Columbia. Huskey opened eyes on special teams….

Marteen and Huskey will be starting kick returners. Peyton Carr of Columbia was second on the team in tackles for loss last year and returns as a junior at defensive back. Behind him on the two-deep is Robert Goehl of Highland High School. There are five players from Blair Oaks High School on the two-deep, including First Team GLVC defensive backs in Ben Thomas and Jake Closser, and two Hairs at quarterback. Nolan is the senior starter and Dylan is a freshman and one-of-two backups.

Truman went 9-2 last season and won America’s Crossroads Bowl. The Bulldogs were picked 2nd in the GLVC preseason poll. Findlay finished 7-4 last year. The Oilers were 3rd in the GMAC preseason poll. The game will kickoff at 11:00 central time on Saturday. Due to a family funeral, Brad will not be able to make the trip to Ohio and we will not have the broadcast.
