The La Plata Lady Bulldogs will look to write another chapter in their historical 2020 softball season when they host Platte Valley in a Class 1 semifinal on Wednesday afternoon. La Plata is coming off a 1-0 extra-inning win Saturday at Braymer to book their first appearance in the state Final Four since 2001. La Plata coach Greg Buescher says they’re taking nothing for granted during this run.

La Plata has made their postseason run with two starters out due to quarantine. Buescher says taking care of the little things will be the key to success against Platte Valley.

Opposing La Plata will be Platte Valley, a co-op team made up off Jefferson Conception Junction and South Nodaway. Platte Valley’s last semifinal trip was in 2016 where the team finished third. That was also the first season for the Platte Valley co-op. Prior to the formation of Platte Valley, Jefferson had won six softball state titles by themselves. Platte Valley coach Shelly Deen says there’s a strong winning culture within her team.

Platte Valley comes into the game with a 21-3 record. They avenged one of their three losses in the quarterfinals when they defeated Stewartsville 11-1. The team averages 8 runs a game. However, Deen knows they will have a challenge from La Plata pitcher Olivia Coy and her riseball.

Colin Schowe will have the call of all the action beginning with pregame at 2:15 on KRES 104.7 and centralmoinfo.com.
