Kirksville and Macon Square Off in Highly Anticipated Season Opener

Kirksville and Macon are set to meet in a highly anticipated week one matchup. Macon erased a 20-point deficit against Kirksville last year to come away with a 42-41 win. First year Macon coach Van Vanatta outlines the key to a week one win for Macon.

Macon returns nine starters on both sides of the ball from a team that went 7-5 and appeared in a district title game. Vanatta explains how the team is handling high expectations this season.

On the other side, Kirksville returns seven offensive starters from a team that went 7-4 and averaged just under 27 points a game. Coach Kevin Krietemeyer says second year starting quarterback Isaac Danielson has made great strides going into his senior year.

Kirksville looks for its third consecutive winning season in 2022 and returns 22 letter winners. Krietemeyer says the Tigers let one get away against Macon last year and feels there is an added incentive to this year’s matchup.

Kirksville and Macon kickoff at 7 tomorrow night at Macon. Brandon Monty and Steven Findley have the call on Superstation KRES with pregame coverage beginning at 6:40.
