Higbee to Face Green City in Class 2 Quarterfinal

The Green City Gophers and Higbee Tigers are set to square-off in a Class 1 Boys Quarterfinal at Glasgow High School Friday night.  For Higbee, this marks their first-ever appearance in a state quarterfinal game. The Tigers are coming off a 62-50 come-from-behind win over Northwest in Hughesville Tuesday night. Higbee coach Tanner Burton says his team did a great job overcoming the slow start in the sectional round.

Higbee outscored Northwest 35-22 in the second half to secure the victory. Freshman Jordan Fuemmeler led the way with 26 points for Higbee. Both Fuemmeler and fellow freshman Derek Rockett lead the Tigers offensively as they both average over 16 points a game. Both Higbee and Green City identify themselves as pressing teams who love to push the pace. Burton says execution will be key against Green City.

Green City is coming off a 70-52 win against Tri-County North rival Meadville Tuesday night. The Gophers used a 19-2 scoring run to take control of the contest. Meanwhile, the Green City defense held the dynamic duo of Trey Gannan and Conner Fletcher to a combined 28 points. Green City coach Donnie Fields says they will need a similar defensive effort against Higbee.

The Gophers will be seeking just their second-ever trip to the Show-Me Showdown. Their only other appearance saw the Gophers take second in Class 1 in 1993. Fields says in order to make a return trip they will have to maintain their style of play.

Green City is 25-4 coming into the quarterfinal matchup while Higbee is 18-5. Pregame coverage of the game will begin at 5:45 pm on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Colin Schowe will have the play-by-play.
