Fayette Seeks Second District Title in Four Years Against Sweet Springs
In 2018 Fayette defeated Sweet Springs 44-6 to win their seventh district championship in program history. This Friday night, the Falcons will seek their eighth such title against the same foe. Fayette brings a 10-1 record into the contest amidst a season that has been tumultuous at times. The Falcons dealt with the death of their teammate Cash Valencia this past winter. Then a few weeks into the season the father of DJ and Brandon Moore died after being struck by a car. Fayette coach Mike Thompson says he’s proud of the way his team has rallied together this season.
Fayette’s offense has been their main strength this season as they average 45.8 points per game. That offensive prowess was on full display last week in a 52-42 win over rival Harrisburg. Thompson says the team has done a good job turning around to prep for Sweet Springs.
The Sweet Springs Greyhounds bring an 8-3 record and a run-heavy offense into Friday night’s contest. Thompson says his message to his defense is pretty straightforward.
Sweet Springs is coming off a 22-19 win over South Callaway in their district semi-final. Kickoff from Fayette High School is scheduled for 7 pm this Friday night.
