Down 24-17 at the half, the Fayette Falcons rallied to defeat Westran 49-48 in a boys quarterfinal match at the Glasgow tournament. The Falcons defense drew plenty of turnovers to climb back into the game, and then took the lead midway through the fourth quarter. Fayette preserved a two point lead into the final minute of the game, and then senior Cale Polson gave the Falcons some breathing room.

Scott Lunte with the call on KRES and centralmoinfo.com of Cale Polson’s triple to make it a five point lead. After a timeout, Westran’s Trey Burton scored a layup, then drew a turnover on the ensuing inbound and tipped the pass to Treyton Black to close the margin to one. The Hornets fouled and got one more posession after a Fayette one-and-one miss, but the ball went of a Westran foot out of bounds with 1.8 seconds. Falcons coach Jon Bishop saw Fayette grow in their season opener.

Falcons junior Kyle Schleeter led the team in scoring with 18, and Polson finished with 16. 1-0 Fayette takes on top seeded Slater in Wednesday’s tournament semifinals. The Wildcats defeated Marceline 61-31 in the second quarterfinal game of the evening. The 1-1 Westran boys get the Tigers in the consolation semifinals.

In the girls contest, Glasgow used a series of 8-0, and 9-0 runs to defeat La Plata 60-48. The Lady Jackets outscored the Bulldogs 19-5, but La Plata closed in the second quarter to make it 29-19 at the half. Glasgow opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run to take a stranglehold of the game, and coach Molly Monnig said that was a key turning point.

Sophomore Malia Carmack scored a game-high 29 points for the Lady Jackets. Next up for the 1-1 tournament hosts is top seeded Marceline. The Tigers defeated Westran in their quarterfinal matchup. 1-1 La Plata gets the Lady Hornets in the consolation quarterfinals. Day two of the Glasgow tournament gets underway at 4:20 on 99.9 The Captain and centralmoinfo.com starting at 4:20 with the 2-7, and 3-6 quarterfinal matchups.
