Elsberry Uses Big Third Inning to Overcome South Shelby

The Elsberry Indians secured a spot in the state quarterfinal with a 8-2 win over the South Shelby Cardinal. South Shelby grabbed its one and only lead of the contest after loading the bases in the second, and concluded the inning with a 2-0 score. The Elsberry response was immediate, as the top of the lineup got the bats going with bases loaded in the 3rd.

Cardinal pitcher Lucas Magruder retired six straight batters to open the game, but gave up five runs in the losing effort. PJ Schmidt was tagged with the other three runs on the mound in relief. South Shelby had four hits while Elsberry reached double digits. The Cardinals graduate nine seniors from the current roster. Rich said the senior class can be proud of its accomplishment in earning a district title.

South Shelby concludes the season 20-6. Elsberry moves on to face South Callaway in the quarterfinal round.
