Edina Native McMahon Heads Back to the SEC to Join the Alabama Softball Staff

A Knox County graduate is headed back to the SEC. Lance McMahon is the newest member of the Alabama Softball coaching staff. He will work primarily with the Crimson Tide pitchers.

McMahon arrives in Tuscaloosa following six seasons at the University of Illinois. The Illini pitching staff recorded sub 3.00 team ERAs in each of the last three seasons, culminating in a 2.50 campaign in 2022; its lowest team ERA since 2010. The pitchers also struck out a single season record 428 batters in 2022, beating the previous record that had stood since 2001. The Illini ranked in the top three in the Big 10 in ERA, saves, strikeouts, batting average against and shutouts.

Prior to his time at Illinois, McMahon was a graduate assistant at LSU, helping the Tigers to a pair of Women’s College World Series appearances. He began his collegiate softball career as a student manager as his alma mater, the University of Missouri, from 2010-13 where the Tigers earned a Big 12 Championship and an appearance at the Women’s College World Series.
