Century Farm Deadline Extended To June 1st

Missouri farm families seeking recognition for the longevity of their operation have another month to complete their application for this year’s round of Missouri Century Farm designations.  University of Missouri Extension recently announced the updated deadline of June 1st for families to apply for the recognition.  Qualifying farms must have been owned by the same family for 100 consecutive years, with the line of ownership from the original settler or buyer through direct descendants, siblings and nephews or nieces.  At least 40 acres of the original acquisition must still be part of the farm and make a financial contribution to the overall farm income.  A $140 fee covers the cost of a certificate, metal farm sign, and booklet for approved applications.  Additional details about the program and application process are available on the MU Extension website.

Since 1976, more than eight-thousand farms have received the Missouri Century Farm designation.  Co-sponsors of the program include Missouri Farm Bureau and the University of Missouri’s College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.
