Centralia Visits Mexico for Week 1 Rivalry Matchup

The Centralia Panthers and Mexico Bulldogs renew their rivalry in a week 1 showdown at Mexico High School. Centralia is coming of a 6-5 record a year ago. They return 22 lettermen, including seven starters on offense Centralia coach Tyler Forsee says that returning experience should serve them well.

The Panthers competed in the Moberly Jamboree last week against the host Spartans and Chillicothe. Centralia fell to Mexico a season ago 46-20. Forsee says the progress the team has shown since week 1 of last season is showing.

Mexico is coming off a 2021 season where the Bulldogs made their way to the Class 3 semifinals before falling to eventual state champion St. Mary’s. While Mexico graduated star running back Michael White, the rest of their backfield returns for the new season. Mexico coach Steve Haag says he’s seen improvement from his returning backs.

Quarterback Ty Sims also returns for his senior season for the Bulldogs. Haag says they will face a significant challenge from the Panthers.

Mexico has beaten Centralia in seven of their last eight meetings. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:40 pm on KTCM 97.3 and centralmoinfo.com. Colin Schowe and Brad Tregnago will have the call.
