Brookfield Reclaims Bell

The Bell heads back to Brookfield after the Bulldogs defeated the Marceline Tigers 20-14 in the 87th Bell Game Friday night. Marceline drove 68 yards on its first drive of the game and it was capped off by a one-yard touchdown run by Caleb Stallo. Amos Baum found the endzone for Brookfield twice in the second quarter to give the Bulldogs a 14-7 lead at halftime. A high snap over the head of Marceline’s punter early in the third quarter gave Brookfield favorable field position and the Bulldogs took advantage.

Marceline drove on its next offensive possession but was stopped on both 3rd and 4th-and-1 to end the drive. Brookfield coach Cory Luke was happy that his team didn’t fold.

Marceline had two more costly snapping errors in the final quarter. Following the opening drive of the game, Brookfield held Joey Peterson’s Tigers to 60 rushing yards the rest of the way.

Luke praised his defensive line.

The Bulldogs move to 1-1 and are next at South Shelby. Marceline drops to 0-2 and will host Harrisburg.
