Boone County Murder Suspect Arrested in Iowa

The man wanted in connection with a shooting death north of Columbia Monday was arrested in Creston, Iowa, Wednesday. The Boone County Sheriff’s Department says 36-year-old Mark Alan Achterberg was wanted for the death of 32-year-old Justin Stidham. Deputies responded to the 5900 block of North Kent Drive around 3:30pm Monday for what had been reported as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There they found Stidham, who later died at an area hospital. Investigators determined it was not self-inflicted, and found reason to believe Achterberg was the shooter.
