An Even Series Between Moberly and Smith-Cotton Will Again Serve As the Season-Opener

Moberly and Smith-Cotton will once again kickoff a new season in Sedalia Friday. The two programs have lifted the lid on the schedule since 2016 and have split those six meetings.

Cody McDowell enters his 8th season leading the Spartans. Last year’s 2-8 mark was his worst since coming to Moberly. McDowell says an 80-man roster is great, but the bottom line is execution to get more wins…..

McDowell is taking a simple approach in determining the success of this season….

Smith-Cotton is under new leadership this year. Josh Gray spent 16 years on the staff at Kearney, the last five as head coach and 11 before that as defensive coordinator.

The Tigers went 3-8 last year and returners include running back Mylan Hawkins, who rushed for 158 yards and four touchdowns in Smith-Cotton’s 32-12 win over the Spartans.

You can hear the Moberly at Smith-Cotton game Friday on KWIX AM and FM and centralmoinfo.com. Our Friday night football coverage on KWIX will begin with the Lindy’s College Football Report at 6:06, followed by our pregame show from Sedalia at 6:35. Brad and Austin will have the call.
