Three Big K area schools are looking to punch tickets to next weeks Show-Me-Showdown in the Class 1 Quarterfinals Friday at Fitzsimmons-John Arena at MACC.

The Community and Green City girls are set for a quarterfinal rematch from last year. The Lady Trojans defeated the Lady Gophers 61-50 on the way to a third place finish. With nine of 10 key players returning from last year’s match, Green City coach Cody Moore reflects on what they’ll need to improve from the loss.

Both teams come into the quarterfinal 27-1. Lady Gopher senior Brooke Littrell scored a game-high 34 points in the 2019 quarterfinal. Aside for slowing down Littrell, Lady Trojan coach Bob Curtis offers some keys to look out for.

Green City avenged their lone loss of the year with a 54-50 sectional victory over Canton while Community controlled Chamois 61-39.

The Meadville Eagles defeated La Plata 54-39 and are in the state quarterfinals for the third time in six years. The Eagles face fourth ranked St. Elizabeth, who knocked off Cairo 46-44. Meadville coach Drew Nier believes there’s an opportunity to take advantage of the Hornets size.

The Hornets come into the quarterfinal 23-5. Nier shares what 26-2 Meadville has to do to get back to the Show-Me Showdown for the first time since their 2015 state title.

The Eagles are winners of 17 straight.

Coverage of Friday’s Class 1 quarterfinals from MACC begins at 6:15pm on Glory 97.3 with the girls quarterfinal between Green City and Community, then will shift over to 99.9 The Captain at 8pm for the boys quarterfinal.
