Year-Over-Year Contraction Continues For Feeder Cattle

The nation’s largest feedlots saw their inventory increase during August, but they’re still continuing their year-over-year decline.  USDA’s monthly Cattle on Feed report released Friday afternoon indicated that 11,094,000 head were on feed at the start of September, a net gain of 64,000 for the month, but a two-percent decline from last year.  2,003,000 cattle were placed during the month, a five-percent drop from a year ago.  Marketings were down six percent at 1,884,000 head.
