Wood Resigns as Palmyra Coach to Assist His Kids’ Teams at Alma Mater Marion County

Palmyra head boys basketball coach Ryan Wood resigned after five years with the Panthers.

Wood guided his alma mater Marion County for 12 seasons before he departed for nearby Palmyra. The Panthers recorded two 20-win seasons and two district championship appearances under Wood.

Palmyra beat Highland 38-37 in this year’s district finals. Wood describes his time in the Clarence Cannon Conference.

Wood will return to Marion County to assist the boys and girls teams. The Marion County alumnus coached the Mustangs to three straight district titles from 2012-14. Marion County reached the quarterfinals in 2012 and 2013. Wood reflects on his head coaching career.

Wood will assist Reed Plunkett, who starred for Wood’s Marion County district championship teams.
