One of the most difficult tasks for farmers needing to plan how they want their farm to carry on when they retire or pass on is starting the conversation with their family. Doctor Ron Hanson of the University of Nebraska says for starters, some farmers find it difficult to let go.

Hanson adds that some farmers might find it difficult to let go because they’re not convinced the next generation will continue their practices and traditions.

He says when visiting with families crafting their plan, he has one guiding question for them:
