Westran Claims First State Golf Title

The Westran Boys Golf team claimed its first state title in program history by 35 strokes in the Class 1 MSHSAA Golf Championships Tuesday at Freemont Hills Country Club in Nixa. The Hornets qualified as a team for the last four state golf tournaments. Coach Jeff Schleicher said the Hornets played spectacular.

Caleb Nagel was Westran’s lone medalist. The senior finished fourth. Schleicher says he is a great leader.

Sectional low medalist Logan Bain finished in a tie for 17th with teammate Christian Seiders. Schleicher says the future of Westran golf remains bright.

Other Class 1 medalists include Chris Ebbesmeyer of Paris, who finished 9th, South Shelby’s Casen Glover, who finished 13th, and Salisbury’s Cooper Francis, who finished 14th.

Palmyra officially claimed the Class 2 state title at Silo Ridge Golf Club in Bolivar. The Panthers were the lone Class 2 team to qualify for the tournament and finished with a team score of 692. Jacob Webster led the Panthers by finishing in a tie for third place. Teammates Laydin Lochman finished ninth, Brady Shively finished tied for 28th, and Elijah Edwards finished 46th. Logan Cox of Hallsville tied Webster for third place, and Logan Buhlig of Monroe City was the lone other medalist finishing in a tie for 10th. Father Tolton’s Christian Rischer took home the Class 3 individual title by shooting even-par for the tournament at Crown Pointe Golf Club in Farmington. Kirksville’s John Boyer finished seventh.
