After an armed standoff, Columbia police found a suspect in an ongoing investigation dead Thursday evening. Around 6, officers from the Columbia Police Department attempted to make contact with the suspect in the 1700 block of Sun Court, but the suspect threatened the officers with a firearm as he fled into the residence. As the Crisis Negotiation Team, SWAT team members, and the armored BearCat arrived on-scene, the suspect fired shots at officers, who returned fire. The suspect remained barricaded in the residence for over an hour as officers attempted to make contact. After those failed, officers entered the residence by force through the garage door, locating the suspect and finding him deceased. Next of kin has not yet been notified.
