Volatility In Farm Input Costs Expected To Resume

Higher prices for and uncertain availability of fertilizer and other critical inputs are likely to remain for the next year, according to a University of Missouri ag economist.  Ben Brown, senior research associate at the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute, says issues with fertilizer production and delivery are almost identical to what occurred the last two winters.

Brown adds that transportation issues are also playing a repeat role.

Ben Brown with the University of Missouri’s Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute suggests farmers review their crop insurance to ensure coverage meets their current needs, and create a grain marketing plan that provides some price protection.  He also recommends farmers lock in delivery prices and insure with a basic revenue protection plan.
