Vernon County Rabbit Pen Prevails At Missouri State Fair

A trio of New Zealand meat rabbits picked up the top prize Wednesday night at the Missouri State Fair, sending a Vernon County 4-H member to the Sale of Champions.  Carissa Stong of the Lone Star 4-H Club led the way with her rabbits that averaged about 4.75 pounds.  She says uniformity was one of the keys to winning the judge’s nod.

Stong explains what she enjoys the most about working with rabbits.

This is Stong’s first trip to the Sale of Champions, set for Saturday afternoon.  However, she already has higher goals in mind for her future competitions.

Macon County’s Kaela Sadler earned Reserve Grand Champion honors for her pen of California rabbits.  Last year’s overall champion Gunnar Fisher of Verona repeated as the winner of the FFA Division, followed by Hadley Coats of Braymer.
