Vanderbilt Football Begins New Era After Winless 2020

Things can only improve for Vanderbilt football in 2021. After a winless 2020, the Commodores moved on from head coach Derek Mason and hired former Notre Dame Defensive Coordinator Clark Lea, who is a 2004 Vandy graduate. Lea says the Commodores have two objectives.

The Commodores have one SEC win in the last two years. The win came against Mizzou in 2019. Lea admits Vanderbilt has a long road to get back to relevance.

Lea was asked what would be considered a successful season.

Junior defensive tackle Daevion Davis has played a prominent role with the Commodores. He says the coaching change has been a humbling experience.

The Commodores host East Tennessee State in their season opener September 4th. Vandy also has a notable nonconference game against Stanford Week 3. The following week is their SEC opener against Georgia. Mizzou makes the trip to Nashville for their annual meeting October 30th. Last year, the Tigers shut out Vanderbilt 41-0 in what turned out to be Mason’s final game as Commodore coach.
