The Faffa Malan Chart, or FAMACHA, gives producers a guide to determine if their sheep, goats and other ruminants are infested with parasites, and to what level. Heather Conrow is a livestock specialist at the University of Missouri Extension office in Howard County.

FAMACHA uses a five-color scoring chart and a sheep or goat’s bottom eyelid color to indicate the level of anemia. Conrow says parasite loads tend to increase this time of year.

University of Missouri Extension and Lincoln University Extension will host a FAMACHA training workshop April 17th at the Howard County Fairgrounds in Fayette. To register or for more information, call the Howard County Extension office at 660-248-2272.
