Landry Mavunga returned a blocked field goal 85 yards for a touchdown to swing the momentum in the second quarter and Indianapolis went on to a 38-17 victory over Truman in a Top 20 matchup at Stokes Stadium today. The key play came with the Bulldogs trying to break a 14-14 tie with less than six minutes left in the half.
Up to that point, Truman had matched UIndy scores with an 18-yard touchdown run by Tim Johnson, Junior, in the first quarter, and this TD pass in the second…..
Brad Boyer with the call on KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Even after the blocked field goal return, the Bulldogs had another chance before the half when Jacksyn Miller of Moberly recovered a muffed punt. But, Grant Ross missed a 26-yard field goal and the Greyhounds led 21-14 at the break.
UIndy scored 10 points in the third quarter, while holding Truman without any passing yards, in taking control of the game. The Bulldogs had three turnovers, went 3-of-7 in the red zone, and 4-of-16 on third down without a conversion in the second half. Coach Gregg Nesbitt said there were too many miscues…..
Denim Cook rushed for 130 yards on 15 carries. The Bulldogs have only lost twice in their last 17 games, both times to Indianapolis.
The Greyhounds move into sole possession of first place in the GLVC at 3-0 and move to 6-0 on the season. Truman falls to 2-1 in the conference and 6-1 overall. The Bulldogs will host William Jewell for homecoming next Saturday. You can hear the game on KRES starting at 1:15.
