Two people are in custody for first degree statutory rape and endangering the welfare of a child. On August 4th, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into a statutory rape claim. Investigators discovered an incident took place at a residence in Atlanta involving a 13-year-old female during the spring of 2020. As a result, 18-year-old Pete Cruse of Salisbury was arrested and charged with first degree Statutory Rape. 29-year-old Paris Smith of Clarence was arrested and charged with first degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Cruse’s bond is $25,000, and Smith’s is $5,000, both cash only.
