The 2021-22 school year will mark the 17th of coaching high school sports for Michael Trussell. This coming year will see Trussell in new surroundings as he takes over as the head coach of the softball and girls basketball programs at Sturgeon. Trussell from Sturgeon from South Harrison, where he led the girls’ basketball team to a 4-23 record this past season. He takes over a Sturgeon girls’ team that went 4-10 this past year. Trussell says he’s already gotten to know the girls since being hired.

Several of Sturgeon’s basketball players will get to experience Trussell’s coaching style on the softball field this fall. Trussell says the time spent with those multi-sport athletes will also be beneficial.
Trussell will take over a Sturgeon softball program that went 3-16 in 2020. Prior to coaching at South Harrison, Trussell spent eight years coaching at Maysville. He also had stops at Breckenridge and his alma mater of Tina-Avalon.
