Truman Teams Pass Season-Opening Test at Lewis

The Truman basketball teams passed their season-opening Great Lakes Valley Conference test at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois Friday afternoon. In the women’s game, reigning GLVC Freshman of the Year Hannah Belanger scored 15 of her game-high 20 points in the second half to lead the Bulldogs to a 76-66 victory over the Flyers. Katie Jaseckas, in her final game back home in the Chicago suburbs, registered a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, to move into the career top 10 list at Truman for rebounds. Trailing 44-42 midway through the third quarter, the Bulldogs took control by scoring ten in a row….

Brad Boyer with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Truman fell behind by as many as 12 points in the second quarter, before closing the half on a 19-6 run to lead by one at the break. Bulldogs coach Theo Dean said his team responded after a slow start…

Our Buck Brothers Player of the Game only scored two points, but Tiffany Davenport contributed 10 assists versus just two turnovers. Ellie Weltha got her first start and led the team with 12 rebounds. Jaseckas also blocked five shots.

The Truman men had six players score in double figures to open defense of their GLVC championship with an 86-75 victory over the Flyers. Cade McKnight led the balanced attack with 18 points, and coach Jeff Horner said it was a nice way to compensate for the loss of production from graduated GLVC Player of the Year Brodric Thomas….

True freshman Masen Miller scored 15 and North Dakota transfer Elijah Hazekamp had 12 in their Bulldog debuts. Dylan Peeters had a double- double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. The ‘Dogs were tied with Lewis at 47 in the second half when a 9-0 run sparked a big finish on the road….

Turner Scott scored 13 and Hunter Strait added 11. The Truman teams will continue the road trip at Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon. You can hear the doubleheader on KRES starting with pregame coverage at 11:45 central time.
