Truman Starts 2020 With a Sweep of Jewell

The Truman State basketball teams started the 2020 portion of the schedule with a conference sweep at William Jewell.

The Bulldog women scored 51 first half points and cruised to an 89-72 victory over the Cardinals. Truman got started quickly by connecting on six three-pointers in the first quarter…

Dean got 20 points from Katey Klucking and a career-high 15 from Maddie Re, who also grabbed 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Hannah Belanger added 14 and Sloane Totta 13. The Bulldogs improve to 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and 6-3 overall. The Cardinals drop to 5-5 and 1-1 in the conference.

In the men’s game, Truman outscored Jewell by 16 in the second half and pulled away for a 78-63 victory. Trailing 40-38 the Bulldogs went on a 20-2 run….

All-conference performer Brodric Thomas struggled to just five points on 1-9 shooting in the first half. He came alive to finish with 22 points and matched a career-high with 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Hunter Strait chipped in 17 points. Alex McQuinn was perfect from the field and added 14.

Down by one at the break, Truman outscored the Cardinals 47-31 in the second half. Coach Jeff Horner explained the difference….

Horner’s Bulldogs improve to 2-0 in the GLVC and 6-4 overall. Eysan Wiley of Columbia paced William Jewell with 24 points, including 22 of the 31 his team scored after intermission. The Cardinals drop to 5-5 and 0-2 in the conference.
