Truman Opens GLVC Play With UMSL In A Central Division Showdown

The Truman State basketball teams will open Great Lakes Valley Conference play with Missouri-St. Louis in a Central Division showdown at Pershing Arena Thursday night. These programs gobbled up all the Central Division first place votes in the preseason poll. The Bulldog women edged UMSL as the top pick after winning the division last year and come into the game with a record of 3-4. The Triton women are the only one of the four teams tonight that has played a GLVC game beating Quincy on Monday night to improve to 4-1. Truman coach Theo Dean expects a battle….

These are two of the top three rebounding teams in the GLVC. Former MACC Lady Greyhounds coach Katie Vaughn is in her 10th season leading the UMSL program. The Tritons’ lineup includes former Lady Hound Shania Liburd and former Mark Twain High School standout McKenzie Lathrom.

The Truman men came into the season ranked 6th in the country, but UMSL edged the Bulldogs in a vote of the coaches to win the Central Division.
