Truman Men Lock Down Lewis-GLVC Streak Ends for Women

The Truman men locked down another opponent while the women saw their Great Lakes Valley Conference winning streak stopped in a split with Lewis Saturday afternoon at Pershing Arena.

In the men’s game, the Bulldogs held Lewis to seven points over the last 13:47 of the first half and grounded the Flyers 85-58. During that stretch, the ‘Dogs went on a 26-7 run….

Brad Boyer with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. In GLVC games only, Truman is the top team in the conference in scoring defense giving up just 58 points. The Bulldogs shot nearly 65-percent from the field. Coach Jeff Horner called it their most complete performance….

Horner got 16 points from both Brodric Thomas and Cade McKnight. The Bulldogs improve to 6-1 in the GLVC and 10-5 overall sweeping all four games of the homestand. The Flyers drop to 8-7 and 3-4 in league play.

In the women’s game, Morgan Glatczak blocked a last second three-point shot to preserve an 80-79 victory for Lewis. It ended Truman’s seven-game conference winning streak dating back to last season. The Bulldog women led by seven at halftime, but were outscored by Lewis 24-8 in the third. Down by 12 with just under eight minutes left, Katey Klucking of Columbia started a comeback….

Kaitlyn Williams was fouled, but missed both free throws leaving the door open….

Rachel Hinders led Lewis with 28 points and Williams scored 20. Williams had hit her first 11 free throws before the two late misses. Without a timeout, coach Theo Dean said he couldn’t change their strategy on the last trip….

Klucking led Truman with 21 points and Katie Jaseckas (juh-SEE-kus) added 19 points. The Bulldogs drop to 6-1 in the GLVC and 10-4 overall. Lewis is tied with Drury for first place at 7-0 and the Flyers move to 10-5 overall.

The Truman teams visit Quincy on Monday for their third game in five days. We will have the games on KRES and centralmoinfo.com starting at 5:15.
