Truman Men Get 1st GLVC Win-Truman Women Take 1st GLVC Loss

The Truman men picked up their first GLVC win and the women lost their first conference game in a split at Southwest Baptist today (Sat.).

In the men’s game, the Bulldogs never trailed in a 73-63 victory over an SBU team receiving votes in the Division II poll. The ‘Dogs led by ten at halftime and twice the Bearcats got within one possession in the second half. At 45-43, Truman scored eight in a row led by Nduka Ogwu…..

Brad Boyer with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Ogwu finished with a career-high 17. Coach Jeff Horner’s squad snapped a six-game losing streak….

Elijah Hazekamp scored 16, and both Hunter Strait and Brandon Kracht of Clark County chipped in 11. CE Talton of Monroe City scored eight points and had four steals. The Bulldogs improve to 4-7 and are off until a December 19th afternoon game with Grand View. SBU drops to 2-3 in the GLVC and 6-3 overall.

The Truman women had their five-game winning streak stopped in a 72-59 loss in Bolivar. The Bulldogs trailed 56-55 in the fourth when SBU went on a 9-oh run. Paris native Tori Hamilton was a key part of a 23-12 final frame for the Bearcats….

Hamilton scored 14 points. Theo Dean’s Bulldogs were held 21 points below their season scoring average….

Ellie Weltha led Truman with 18 points. Truman drops to 4-1 in the GLVC and 7-4 overall. The Bulldogs head to Lakeland, Florida to play Florida Southern and Eckard on Friday and Saturday. SBU gets its first conference win and improves to 5-6.
