Truman Assistant Briggs Named Newman Head Coach
Truman assistant Amy Briggs has been named the next Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Newman University. Briggs spent the last three seasons at Truman State where she was an assistant for two seasons before being promoted to Associate Head Coach before the 2022-23 season.
During her time at Truman State, the Bulldogs went 46-26 overall and 36-10 in the GLVC. The Bulldogs made the conference tournament all three seasons and reached the NCAA DII Midwest Regional in the 2020-21 season, defeating Northwood University before falling to Drury in the 2nd round.
Briggs began her coaching career at Missouri Valley College in Marshall as a graduate assistant.
Briggs was a first-team Great Lakes Valley Conference selection and earned a spot on the all-GLVC Tournament team after the Bulldogs captured their first conference tournament title in 2014. She set a new school single-season record with 80 three-pointers that season in 31 games (broken by Hannah Belanger this past season).
Newman is a member of the MIAA. The Jets went 7-15 in conference play this past season and 10-18 overall.
