Top Goat Hails From Vernon County For Third Straight Year

For the third consecutive year, the grand champion goat at the Missouri State Fair hails from Vernon County. Wednesday in the refurbished Sheep Pavilion, Stetson Wiss of the Show-Me 4-H club picked up top honors for his 93-lb wether. Wiss credits hard work and experience previously showing cattle and sheep.
While it was Wiss’ first year working with goats, it won’t be his first trip to the Sale of Champions. In 2014, he exhibited the Grand Champion steer. Wiss explains what he enjoys the most from showing livestock.
Stetson Wiss of Vernon County will be a junior at Lamar High School this fall.
Reserve grand champion honors went to Grey Porter of North Mercer FFA and his 91-lb goat. The two will have their prize animals included in the Sale of Champions on August 22nd.
