Tony Whiston Returning to Coaching at Keytesville
After 27 years away from coaching high school basketball, Tony Whiston will be returning to the sidelines for the 2023-24 season. Whiston is stepping down from his role as Salisbury Superintendent to become Keytesville’s boys’ and girls’ basketball coaches. Whiston says he’s looking forward to getting back into coaching.
Keytesville Superintendent Josh Shoemaker explains how the hiring process for the coaching position played out.
Whiston coached South Shelby’s boys and girls teams for six years including a third place finish for the Cardinals in 1990. He also spent four years as a head coach at Liberty High School in Illinois. He inherits a pair of varsity teams that went a combined 1-36 this past season. Whiston says he’s working early to build the teams up.
Current Wheatland Superintendent Jared Wallace replaces Whiston as Salisbury Superintendent in July.
