Tipton Knocks Out Cairo in Class 2 Quarterfinal

The Cairo Lady Bearcats’ run in the Class 2 playoffs ended Saturday with a 64-29 loss to Tipton in the quarterfinals. The Lady Cardinals jumped ahead early with an 11-0 run. Myra Claas got the scoring started for Tipton.

Colin Schowe with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Claas led the Lady Cardinals with a game-high 23 points as they pushed their lead to 32-3 in the late stages of the first half. Cairo concluded the first half on a 6-0 run and a 9-0 run to end the third quarter. Cairo coach Brian Winkler said he was proud of his team’s effort despite the result.

This was Tipton’s twelfth straight win by over 30 points. Winkler said this was a learning experience for his team.

Cairo’s lone senior, Gracie Brumley, ended her high school career with a seven-point effort. Winkler said Brumley means a lot to the program.

Cairo concludes its season with a record of 26-4. Tipton advances to the Class 2 Semifinals in Springfield against Norwood.
