Tips For Prescribed Burning To Encourage Pollinators

Farmers looking to reduce weeds and promote pollinator growth are encouraged to consider whether they should conduct a prescribed burn.  Brady Lichtenberg, conservation programs manager with Missouri Soybeans, says a controlled burn during the winter helps to control unwanted plants while avoiding damage to crops.

Lichtenberg says safety is key to ensuring a successful burn.

Lichtenberg also advises farmers who are about to conduct a burn that they should wear clothing that is less likely to catch on fire, as well as inform neighbors and the local fire department of their plans.
