The 149th Annual Hurdland 4th of July Celebration will take place this Saturday and Sunday in the Hurdland City Park. One of this year’s main attractions will be a performance Sunday night from award-winning country rock band The Kentucky Headhunters. Band member Richard Young says they’re excited to be playing in Missouri on the 4th of July.

They were founded as a family band in 1968 but didn’t take on the moniker of The Kentucky Headhunters until 1986. The band has won three Country Music Association awards, a Grammy, and an Academy of Country Music award. They are known for a mix of country, blues, southern rock, and heavy metal. Young says they’ll likely throw a little bit of everything at the attendees in Hurdland.

The band also features some Missouri connections with bass guitarist Doug Phelps growing up in the bootheel of Missouri, as well as performing two albums with St. Louis pianist Johnnie Johnson. Young explains the process of booking the gig in Hurdland.

The Kentucky Headhunters will perform Sunday from 8 to 10 pm. Hurdland’s annual fireworks display will follow the conclusion of their performance. For more information on this year’s Hurdland 4th of July Celebration visit their Facebook page.
