Audrain County 911 Emergency Services Director Amanda Crewse has announced that entity now has the ability to receive 911 text messages through certain carriers. The county recently obtained the equipment necessary for the service. Officials hope it will be particularly helpful to those with speech or hearing difficulties. Dispatchers will still ask questions in response to the initial text message. Those sending the text will still need to know their location. Audrain County residents are reminded that while the service is now available, a 911 call is still the preferred way to report an emergency.
