Talton Shot Helps Truman Men Upset USML-Bulldog Women Win On Late Belanger Free Throws

Former Monroe City standout CE Talton hit a big shot late and Hannah Belanger’s clutch free throws with two seconds left led to a Truman sweep of Missouri-St. Louis at Pershing Arena today (Sat.)

The Bulldog men upset 19th ranked UMSL 69-62. The ‘Dogs were up two with under a minute left when the former KRES All-Star delivered this dagger on a scramble play as the shot clock expired….

Brad Boyer with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Talton would also get a breakaway hoop for the final margin and finished with eight points. Truman coach Jeff Horner was pleased that his defense held the conference’s best shooting team to 31-percent from the field….

Hunter Strait led Truman with 16 points and seven assists. The Bulldogs improve to 5-8 in the GLVC and 10-11 overall. The Triton drop to 9-4 in the conference and 17-4 overall.

The Truman women pulled out a 72-71 victory over UMSL as a result of this play….

Belanger swished both free throws for her first points of the second half, after scoring 19 before halftime. Coach Theo Dean talked about the play….

UMSL erased a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter and went on top on a basket by Jalysa Stokes with five seconds left, before the Belanger free throws. Stokes finished with 18. Ellie Weltha had 18 points and 11 rebounds for Truman. The Bulldogs improve to 11-2 in the GLVC and 15-6. The Tritons drop to 6-7 in the league and 8-11 overall.
