Sturgeon Man Killed in Columbia Shooting Saturday Morning

A Sturgeon man has died due to injuries from gunshot wounds Sunday.

Around 12:40am Saturday, Columbia police responded to a report of shots fired near 8th and Locust. Officers learned 38-year-old Joseph Hecht was taken in a private vehicle to a hospital for advanced medical care before officers and Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene.

23-year-old Kesan Tyree McNeal of Columbia was arrested for 2nd degree murder. After being processed, he will be remanded to the custody of the Boone County Jail. Columbia Police is asking for help in identifying a second suspect. Images of him can be viewed below this article. He is considered armed and dangerous.
