Spartans Surge to 5-0 With Another Dominant Rushing Effort at Fulton

Moberly defeated Fulton 50-12 at Fulton Friday night. Fulton led 12-7 with four minutes left in the first quarter, but Moberly senior Toby Short responded with consecutive touchdowns.

Short’s second score handed the Spartans a 20-12 advantage four minutes into the second quarter. The 0-5 Hornets opened with the football and scored on their first two possessions, but the undefeated Spartans provided scores on their first six possessions, including Ethan Vandall’s 26-yard field goal at the first half buzzer. Moberly entered the locker room with a 29-12 lead. Spartans head coach Cody McDowell reacted to the victory.

Senior Jarrett Kinder rushed for two touchdowns, and seniors Ethan Vandall, Will LaRue, and Jack Davidson each added one rushing touchdown. Davidson delivered a career-high 115 yards. Five Spartans rushed for 50-plus yards, and LaRue ended with an unofficial 35 yards. Moberly held Fulton’s standout quarterback Courtland Simmons to 23 rushing yards after the sophomore rushed for 100-plus yards in each of the first four games. McDowell evaluated Moberly’s defensive performance.
