Spartans Shine on Offense, Defense, and Special Teams in 42-7 Win
Moberly football defeated Excelsior Springs 42-7 Saturday. Spartan senior Ethan Vandall helped Moberly to a monstrous first half.
Eric Duick with the calls on KWIX and centralmoinfo.com. Vandall scored a 12-yard touchdown four minutes in, then added a 29-yard score for a 27-0 lead late in the second quarter. Between the touchdowns, Vandall connected on a 27-yard field goal and a career long 33-yard field goal. Head coach Cody McDowell discussed the senior’s performance.
Senior Toby Short provided 131 receiving yards and two touchdowns. McDowell’s 3-0 Spartans dominated field position with five first-half possessions that started inside Tiger territory.
Moberly’s starters held Excelsior Springs scoreless before the reserves allowed a touchdown in the middle of the third quarter.
Moberly welcomes Kirksville for the NCMC opener Friday. Excelsior Springs sits 1-1. The Tigers did not play week two after Excelsior Springs faced a COVID-19 positive player from Savannah in week one.
