With the economy still needing a jump-start in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the Soy Transportation Coalition says that projects improving the nation’s roads, bridges and waterways can help achieve that boost. Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says that for too long, the nation has opted to just spend funds rather than invest in itself.

Steenhoek notes that projects upgrading five locks along the Illinois River are underway. He says industries like agriculture need to step up and promote infrastructure projects that benefit them and the nation as a whole.

Steenhoek says he’s hopeful a new highway bill can be crafted by Congress before the current one expires in September. The House of Representatives recently passed a $1.5 trillion measure largely along party lines.
