Soy Providing Many Potential Uses As Polymer

A collaboration across state lines is helping to develop more value-added uses for soybeans, including their residue.  The Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council has been supporting research at the Kansas Polymer Research Institute.  Doctor Ram Gupta explains how soybean and other vegetable oils can help with the sustainable production of materials that would otherwise use fossil fuels.

Gupta’s research has also focused on using soybeans and their residue to construct batteries.  He says they hope to turn their attention to developing another power source.

Doctor Ram Gupta and the Kansas Polymer Research Institute are based at Pittsburg State University.
